1-SIN—GENERAL INFORMATION

The word sin, along with sinful, sinned, sinner, sinnest, sinneth, sinning, and sins appears in the KJV approximately 827 times. To adequately cover this subject would take far more material than any known Bible course offers. Nevertheless, we hope to give you a good overview of this subject.

2-WHAT IS SIN?

Many definitions of sin can be given. This is but one from God's Word. It is written, WHOSOEVER (or everyone who) COMMITTETH SIN (or keeps sinning) TRANSGRESSETH ALSO (or is violating) THE LAW: FOR SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION (or violation) OF THE LAW (sin is lawlessness)-1 Jn 3:4.

3-DIFFERENT TYPES OF SIN

There are different types of sin.
There is personal sin. This is the act of a person’s will. This covers falling short of a mark, or going too wide.
    Consider these five words:
    transgression
    iniquity
    error
    sin
    greater sin

There is also wickedness. The basic, inward nature of man is wickedness. This nature will outwardly express itself in a person through wicked deeds or fruits. Does a person need to teach a child to lie or steal? No. Rather they need to train the child to do what is good and right. Every child that is born, by his very nature, knows how to do wickedness.

Another form of sin is an attitude that opposes the goodness and holiness of God.

There is ungodliness. The person lacks respect, awe, or reverence towards God. They do not fear God. It is written, BY THE FEAR OF THE LORD MEN DEPART FROM EVIL-Pv 16:6.

There is disobedience or the unwillingness to be led or guided in the ways of truth.

There is unbelief or failure to trust in God.

There is lawlessness or an open contempt of divine law.

It is the sin nature that produces the acts. The sons of Adam received the sin nature of Adam.

4-DIFFERENT DEGREES OF SIN

It is written, FOR WHOSOEVER SHALL KEEP THE WHOLE LAW, AND YET OFFEND IN ONE POINT, HE IS GUILTY OF ALL. FOR HE THAT SAID, DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, SAID ALSO, DO NOT KILL. NOW IF THOU COMMIT NO ADULTERY, YET IF THOU KILL, THOU ART BECOME A TRANSGRESSOR OF THE LAW-Ja 2:10,11.

God hates sin. It may be said that sin is the abominable thing that God hates. It is written, THESE SIX THINGS DOTH THE LORD HATE: YEA, SEVEN ARE AN ABOMINATION UNTO HIM-Pv 6:16. Such sins as pride, lying, shedding innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked imaginations, swift feet running to mischief, a false witness, and sowing discord among the brethren are all mentioned.

Yet, as the Scriptures are studied, it may be noted that some sins are worse than others in God's eyes. Some sins are considered as greater sins. Some can bring a greater penalty or greater damnation.

It is written, JESUS ANSWERED, THOU COULDEST HAVE NO POWER AT ALL AGAINST ME, EXCEPT IT WERE GIVEN THEE FROM ABOVE: THEREFORE HE THAT DELIVERED ME UNTO THEE HATH (or is guilty of) THE GREATER SIN-Jn 19:11. It is noted that there are two sins listed here. Those that delivered Jesus to the authority had the greater sin.

It is written, WOE UNTO YOU, SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, HYPOCRITES! FOR YE DEVOUR WIDOWS' HOUSES, AND FOR A PRETENCE MAKE LONG PRAYER: THEREFORE YE SHALL RECEIVE THE GREATER DAMNATION-Mt 23:14. The false teachers of God's Word were hypocrites. They made long prayers. They were to ultimately receive greater damnation. It may be said, that before they will be cast into the eternal lake of fire, they shall receive many stripes.

In like manner, it is written, WHICH DEVOUR WIDOWS' HOUSES, AND FOR A SHEW MAKE LONG PRAYERS: THE SAME SHALL RECEIVE GREATER DAMNATION-Lk 20:47. Note again, the words, "greater damnation".

In like manner, it is also written, BEWARE OF THE SCRIBES, WHICH DESIRE TO WALK IN LONG ROBES, AND LOVE GREETINGS IN THE MARKETS, AND THE HIGHEST SEATS IN THE SYNAGOGUES, AND THE CHIEF ROOMS AT FEASTS; WHICH DEVOUR WIDOWS' HOUSES, AND FOR A SHEW MAKE LONG PRAYERS: THE SAME SHALL RECEIVE GREATER DAMNATION-Lk 20:46,47. For the third time, the words "greater damnation" are used.

Any sexual sin outside of a biblical marriage is considered a very great sin. Many people have what is called a "one night stand" with someone of the opposite sex. Throughout the world, people move in with each other and commit fornication. Some even call it a marriage. Some even have permission from their parents. Some even live with their parents while doing this abomination. Some live together for years, and think they shall escape the judgment of God. In some countries, this horrible thing is a tradition, so they think it must be all right. Their parents did it. Their preacher did it. Other clergy also do this, so it must be all right. The Bible warns about this wickedness in very clear terms.

FLEE FORNICATION (or sexual immorality). EVERY SIN THAT A MAN DOETH (or commits) IS WITHOUT (or outside) THE BODY; BUT HE (the immoral man) THAT COMMITTETH FORNICATION (or sins sexually) SINNETH AGAINST HIS OWN BODY-1 Cor 6:18.

There is the sin of trying to turn someone from God. It is very common, that when a servant of God witnesses to a person, and that person chooses to follow Jesus, that right afterward relatives, friends, employers, false teachers, and others will converge upon that individual who has chosen to follow Jesus. They may use tactics like telling him that he is crazy. They may try to discredit the person who witnessed to him, by calling that person a liar. They may threaten the person with jail, eviction from the house he is living in, a loss of his job, physical harm, or even death. The Bible warns such people that do these things. It is written, AND WHOSOEVER SHALL OFFEND ONE OF THESE LITTLE ONES THAT BELIEVE IN ME, IT IS BETTER FOR HIM THAT A MILLSTONE WERE HANGED ABOUT HIS NECK, AND HE WERE CAST INTO THE SEA-Mk 9:42.

IF THY BROTHER, THE SON OF THY MOTHER, OR THY SON, OR THY DAUGHTER, OR THE WIFE OF THY BOSOM, OR THY FRIEND, WHICH IS AS THINE OWN SOUL, ENTICE THEE SECRETLY, SAYING, LET US GO AND SERVE OTHER GODS, WHICH THOU HAST NOT KNOWN, THOU, NOR THY FATHERS; NAMELY, OF THE GODS OF THE PEOPLE WHICH ARE ROUND ABOUT YOU, NIGH UNTO THEE, OR FAR OFF FROM THEE, FROM THE ONE END OF THE EARTH EVEN UNTO THE OTHER END OF THE EARTH;

THOU SHALT NOT CONSENT UNTO HIM, NOR HEARKEN UNTO HIM; NEITHER SHALL THINE EYE PITY HIM, NEITHER SHALT THOU SPARE, NEITHER SHALT THOU CONCEAL HIM: BUT THOU SHALT SURELY KILL HIM; THINE HAND SHALL BE FIRST UPON HIM TO PUT HIM TO DEATH, AND AFTERWARDS THE HAND OF ALL THE PEOPLE. AND THOU SHALT STONE HIM WITH STONES, THAT HE DIE; BECAUSE HE HATH SOUGHT TO THRUST THEE AWAY FROM THE LORD THY GOD, WHICH BROUGHT THEE OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT, FROM THE HOUSE OF BONDAGE. AND ALL ISRAEL SHALL HEAR, AND FEAR, AND SHALL DO NO MORE ANY SUCH WICKEDNESS AS THIS IS AMONG YOU-Deut 13:6-11.

The worst form of sin, and one that shall never be forgiven, is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. It is written, WHEREFORE I SAY UNTO YOU, ALL MANNER OF SIN AND BLASPHEMY SHALL BE FORGIVEN UNTO MEN: BUT THE BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST SHALL NOT BE FORGIVEN UNTO MEN-Mt 12:31.

AND WHOSOEVER SHALL SPEAK A WORD AGAINST THE SON OF MAN, IT SHALL BE FORGIVEN HIM: BUT UNTO HIM THAT BLASPHEMETH AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST IT SHALL NOT BE FORGIVEN-Lk 12:10.

IF ANY MAN SEE HIS BROTHER SIN (or committing) A SIN WHICH IS NOT (does not lead) UNTO DEATH, HE SHALL ASK, (or pray) AND HE (God) SHALL GIVE HIM LIFE FOR THEM THAT SIN NOT UNTO DEATH. THERE IS A SIN (that does lead) UNTO DEATH: I DO NOT SAY THAT HE SHALL PRAY FOR IT. ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS (or wrongdoing) IS SIN: AND THERE IS A SIN NOT (leading) UNTO DEATH-1 Jn 5:16-17. Many clergy are quick to point out that if a person has any spiritual desire, he certainly has never committed this sin. Yet, it may be noted that certain religious leaders did commit this sin in the Scriptures. Did they still teach the Scriptures afterward? The answer is yes. Remember, the Bible tells us we are to examine a person’s fruits. It is written, WHEREFORE BY THEIR FRUITS YE SHALL KNOW THEM-Mt 7:20.

During the Tribulation period, there will be the sin of taking the mark of the Antichrist or the number of his name, which is 666. There will be the sin of worshipping the image of the Antichrist that will ultimately be set up in Jerusalem. For these sins there will be no forgiveness. (Note Rev chapter thirteen). The only thing they can look forward to is the eternal lake of fire.

There is the sin of adding to or taking away from the words of the Revelation. It is written, FOR I TESTIFY UNTO EVERY MAN THAT HEARETH THE WORDS OF THE PROPHECY OF THIS BOOK, IF ANY MAN SHALL ADD UNTO THESE THINGS, GOD SHALL ADD UNTO HIM THE PLAGUES THAT ARE WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK: AND IF ANY MAN SHALL TAKE AWAY FROM THE WORDS OF THE BOOK OF THIS PROPHECY, GOD SHALL TAKE AWAY HIS PART OUT OF THE BOOK OF LIFE, AND OUT OF THE HOLY CITY, AND FROM THE THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK-Rev 22:18,19.

There are people in recent years who have dared to translate certain Bibles and publish Bibles that leave out certain Scriptures, including the ones above. Woe to them!

The Scriptures do teach tithing in the New Testament. However, they also teach that there are weightier matters of the law. Judgment, mercy, and faith are three items that are of the utmost importance to be done. This, however, does not mean we are to leave tithing undone. We are to tithe, also.

It is written, WOE UNTO YOU, SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, HYPOCRITES! FOR YE PAY TITHE OF MINT AND ANISE AND CUMMIN, AND HAVE OMITTED THE WEIGHTIER MATTERS OF THE LAW, JUDGMENT, MERCY, AND FAITH: THESE OUGHT YE TO HAVE DONE, AND NOT TO LEAVE THE OTHER UNDONE-Mt 23:23. For those that do not tithe and give offerings, they are robbing God, and a curse is upon them. As it is written, WILL A MAN ROB GOD? YET YE HAVE ROBBED ME. BUT YE SAY, WHEREIN HAVE WE ROBBED THEE? IN TITHES AND OFFERINGS. YE ARE CURSED WITH A CURSE: FOR YE HAVE ROBBED ME, EVEN THIS WHOLE NATION-Mal 3:8,9.

There are also greater abominations. It is written, THEN SAID HE UNTO ME, HAST THOU SEEN THIS, O SON OF MAN? TURN THEE YET AGAIN, AND THOU SHALT SEE GREATER ABOMINATIONS THAN THESE-Ezek 8:15.

    There is the sin of causing your weak brother to fall because of your unwise actions. The Scriptures give a stern warning about this. It is written, FOR IF ANY MAN SEE THEE WHICH HAST KNOWLEDGE SIT (or dining) AT MEAT IN THE IDOL'S TEMPLE, SHALL NOT THE CONSCIENCE OF HIM WHICH IS WEAK BE EMBOLDENED (or built up wrongly or strengthened) TO EAT THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE OFFERED TO IDOLS;

AND THROUGH THY KNOWLEDGE SHALL THE WEAK BROTHER PERISH (or is destroyed or ruined), FOR WHOM CHRIST DIED?

BUT WHEN YE SIN SO AGAINST THE BRETHREN, AND WOUND THEIR WEAK CONSCIENCE, YE SIN AGAINST CHRIST-1 Cor 8:10-12.

There is the sin of a pastor leaving his flock. The Scriptures appear to indicate that the person that does this will go into total darkness. It is written, WOE TO THE IDOL (worthless) SHEPHERD THAT LEAVETH THE FLOCK! THE SWORD SHALL BE UPON HIS ARM, AND UPON HIS RIGHT EYE: HIS ARM SHALL BE CLEAN DRIED UP, AND HIS RIGHT EYE SHALL BE UTTERLY DARKENED-Zech 11:17.

There is the sin of taking a brother in Christ to a court of law. It is written, NOW THEREFORE THERE IS UTTERLY A FAULT AMONG YOU, BECAUSE YE GO TO LAW ONE WITH ANOTHER. WHY DO YE NOT RATHER TAKE WRONG? WHY DO YE NOT RATHER SUFFER YOURSELVES TO BE DEFRAUDED? This is the attitude that a born-again Christian should have.

NAY, YE DO WRONG, AND DEFRAUD, AND THAT YOUR BRETHREN. KNOW YE NOT THAT THE UNRIGHTEOUS SHALL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD? BE NOT DECEIVED: NEITHER FORNICATORS, NOR IDOLATERS, NOR ADULTERERS, NOR EFFEMINATE, NOR ABUSERS OF THEMSELVES WITH MANKIND, NOR THIEVES, NOR COVETOUS, NOR DRUNKARDS, NOR REVILERS, NOR EXTORTIONERS, SHALL INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD-1 Cor 6:7-10.

There is the sin of teaching traditions of men, or traditions of religious leaders, or traditions of denominations, or traditions of countries, or false doctrines. In this generation, this is common. BUT HE ANSWERED AND SAID UNTO THEM, WHY DO YE ALSO TRANSGRESS THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD BY YOUR TRADITION?-Mt 15:3. THIS PEOPLE DRAWETH NIGH UNTO ME WITH THEIR MOUTH, AND HONOURETH ME WITH THEIR LIPS; BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR FROM ME. BUT IN VAIN THEY DO WORSHIP ME, TEACHING FOR DOCTRINES THE COMMANDMENTS OF MEN-Mt 15:8,9. The Scriptures have shown that their worship accomplishes nothing. It is in vain.

There is the sin of respecting certain people because they may have money, or influence, or political power, and giving them special treatment in the church. There is the sin of treating the poor badly and with no respect.

In God's eyes, there are only two classes of people. One is the born-again Christians, and the other are those that are not born-again. It is written, BUT YE HAVE DESPISED THE POOR. DO NOT RICH MEN OPPRESS YOU, AND DRAW YOU BEFORE THE JUDGMENT SEATS? DO NOT THEY BLASPHEME THAT WORTHY NAME BY THE WHICH YE ARE CALLED? IF YE FULFILL THE ROYAL LAW ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURE, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF, YE DO WELL: BUT IF YE HAVE RESPECT TO PERSONS, YE COMMIT SIN, AND ARE CONVINCED OF THE LAW AS TRANSGRESSORS-Ja 2:6-9.

There is the sin of lying. The Scriptures show that Satan is a liar. It is written, THE DEVIL,…HE IS A LIAR, AND THE FATHER OF IT-Jn 8:44.

God hates lying. It is written, THESE SIX THINGS DOTH THE LORD HATE: YEA, SEVEN ARE AN ABOMINATION UNTO HIM…A LYING TONGUE…A FALSE WITNESS THAT SPEAKETH LIES-Pv 6:16,17,19.

It is also written by David, I HATE AND ABHOR LYING-Ps 119:163.

The Scriptures show us that a person, who says he is saved, or "I know Him", but does not keep God's commandments, is a liar. It is written, HE THAT SAITH, I KNOW HIM, AND KEEPETH NOT HIS COMMANDMENTS, IS A LIAR, AND THE TRUTH IS NOT IN HIM-1 Jn 2:4.

Anyone, who denies that Jesus is the Messiah, is a liar. It is written, WHO IS A LIAR BUT HE THAT DENIETH THAT JESUS IS THE CHRIST? HE IS ANTICHRIST, THAT DENIETH THE FATHER AND THE SON-1 Jn 2:22.

The Bible portrays to us that if a man says that he loves God, but hates his brother (which includes a brother in Jesus), he is a liar. It is written, IF A MAN SAY, I LOVE GOD, AND HATETH HIS BROTHER, HE IS A LIAR: FOR HE THAT LOVETH NOT HIS BROTHER WHOM HE HATH SEEN, HOW CAN HE LOVE GOD WHOM HE HATH NOT SEEN?-1 Jn 4:20.

Ananias and his wife Sapphira sold a possession and kept back part of the price. Then they lied about it. Ananias and his wife lied to Peter, a servant of God. Peter told him that he had not lied to men, but to God. Peter told her that they had agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord. God struck both of them dead.

It is written, PETER SAID, ANANIAS, WHY HATH SATAN FILLED THINE HEART TO LIE TO THE HOLY GHOST, AND TO KEEP BACK PART OF THE PRICE OF THE LAND? WHILES IT REMAINED, WAS IT NOT THINE OWN? AND AFTER IT WAS SOLD, WAS IT NOT IN THINE OWN POWER? WHY HAST THOU CONCEIVED THIS THING IN THINE HEART? THOU HAST NOT LIED UNTO MEN, BUT UNTO GOD. AND ANANIAS HEARING THESE WORDS FELL DOWN, AND GAVE UP THE GHOST: AND GREAT FEAR CAME ON ALL THEM THAT HEARD THESE THINGS.

About three hours later, Sapphira, not knowing what had happened to her husband, also came in. AND PETER ANSWERED UNTO HER, TELL ME WHETHER YE SOLD THE LAND FOR SO MUCH? AND SHE SAID, YEA, FOR SO MUCH. THEN PETER SAID UNTO HER, HOW IS IT THAT YE HAVE AGREED TOGETHER TO TEMPT THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD? BEHOLD, THE FEET OF THEM WHICH HAVE BURIED THY HUSBAND ARE AT THE DOOR, AND SHALL CARRY THEE OUT. THEN FELL SHE DOWN STRAIGHTWAY AT HIS FEET, AND YIELDED UP THE GHOST: AND THE YOUNG MEN CAME IN, AND FOUND HER DEAD, AND, CARRYING HER FORTH, BURIED HER BY HER HUSBAND-Acts 5:3,4,5,8-10.

How are we to deal with a liar? The answer is that we rebuke them sharply. It is written, ONE OF THEMSELVES, EVEN A PROPHET OF THEIR OWN, SAID, THE CRETIANS ARE ALWAY LIARS…THIS WITNESS IS TRUE. WHEREFORE REBUKE THEM SHARPLY, THAT THEY MAY BE SOUND IN THE FAITH-Titus 1:12,13.

The Bible warns that no one that makes a lie shall enter into New Jerusalem. The Bible warns that "all" liars shall perish to the lake which burns with fire and brimstone. Before you lie again, consider carefully what God's Word has said about liars.

It is written, AND THERE SHALL IN NO WISE ENTER INTO IT ANY THING THAT…MAKETH A LIE-Rev 21:27. BUT THE FEARFUL, AND UNBELIEVING, AND THE ABOMINABLE, AND MURDERERS, AND WHOREMONGERS, AND SORCERERS, AND IDOLATERS, AND ALL LIARS, SHALL HAVE THEIR PART IN THE LAKE WHICH BURNETH WITH FIRE AND BRIMSTONE: WHICH IS THE SECOND DEATH-Rev 21:8.

Not to love the brethren is sin. Such a person abides in death. It is written, WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE PASSED FROM DEATH UNTO LIFE, BECAUSE WE LOVE THE BRETHREN. HE THAT LOVETH NOT HIS BROTHER ABIDETH IN DEATH-1 Jn 3:14. (For) IF WE WALK IN THE LIGHT, AS HE IS IN THE LIGHT, WE HAVE FELLOWSHIP ONE WITH ANOTHER, AND THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST HIS SON CLEANSETH (or purifies) US FROM ALL SIN-1 Jn 1:7.

5-ALL UNDER SIN BECAUSE OF ADAM

We are all under sin. This is the state in which man was placed ever since Adam sinned by disobeying God. It is written, THEY ARE ALL UNDER SIN-Ro 3:9. Because of one man, Adam, sin entered into the world.

As a result of sin, death came upon all men.

All die physically, because of Adam. Billions of graves and people in "hell" attest that when God said to Adam, THOU SHALT SURELY DIE, He meant what He said-ref Gen 2:17.

It is written, FOR WHAT THE LAW COULD NOT DO, IN THAT IT WAS WEAK (or powerless) THROUGH THE FLESH (because it lacked the power to make the old nature cooperate-JNT), GOD SENDING HIS OWN SON IN THE LIKENESS OF SINFUL FLESH (as a human being), AND FOR (an offering for) SIN, (and so He) CONDEMNED SIN IN THE FLESH (or in sinful man). (God did this in order to deal with sin, and in so doing, He executed the punishment against sin in human nature-JNT)-Ro 8:3. Note God’s words, "sinful flesh". We have a sin nature that wants to rebel against authority. We want to rule over ourselves, rather than be submissive to another's rules and regulations.

IN ORDER THAT THE (righteous) REQUIREMENT OF THE LAW MIGHT BE FULFILLED (or fully met) IN US, WHO DO NOT WALK (or live) ACCORDING TO THE FLESH (or sinful nature), BUT ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT-Ro 8:4 NAS.

WHEREFORE, AS BY ONE MAN (or individual) (Adam) SIN ENTERED INTO THE WORLD, AND DEATH BY SIN (or through sin, death); AND SO (in this way) DEATH PASSED UPON ALL MEN (or through to the whole human race-JNT), FOR THAT ALL HAVE SINNED:

(FOR UNTIL THE LAW SIN WAS IN THE WORLD: BUT SIN IS NOT IMPUTED (or counted) WHERE THERE IS NO LAW. NEVERTHELESS DEATH REIGNED (or ruled) FROM (the time of) ADAM TO (the time of) MOSES, EVEN OVER THEM THAT HAD NOT SINNED (by breaking a command) AFTER THE SIMILITUDE (or likeness) OF ADAM'S TRANSGRESSION (or offense), WHO IS THE FIGURE (or type or pattern) OF HIM THAT WAS TO COME (which was Jesus)-Ro 5:12-14.

6-ALL ARE UNDER SIN

BUT THE SCRIPTURE HATH CONCLUDED (or shut up) ALL UNDER SIN (the whole world is a prisoner of sin), (so) THAT THE PROMISE BY FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST MIGHT BE GIVEN TO THEM THAT BELIEVE (to those who continue trustingly faithful-JNT)-Gal 3:22.

Indeed, it is written FOR ALL HAVE SINNED, AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD-Ro 3:23.

7-CONTRASTING: IN ADAM ALL DIE; IN CHRIST ALL MADE ALIVE; THE FREE GIFT

FOR SINCE BY MAN (Adam) CAME DEATH, BY MAN (Jesus) CAME ALSO THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD. FOR AS IN (connection with) ADAM ALL DIE, EVEN SO IN CHRIST SHALL ALL BE MADE ALIVE-1 Cor 15:21,22. Thus, our hope and faith is in Jesus Christ.

AND SO IT IS WRITTEN, THE FIRST MAN ADAM WAS MADE (or became) A LIVING SOUL (or human being); THE LAST ADAM (which is Christ) WAS MADE A QUICKENING (or life giving) SPIRIT-1 Cor 15:45.

AND NOT AS IT WAS BY ONE (Adam) THAT SINNED, SO IS THE GIFT (no, the free gift is not like what resulted from one man's sinning): FOR THE JUDGMENT WAS BY ONE (sinner or transgression resulting) TO CONDEMNATION, BUT THE FREE GIFT IS OF MANY OFFENCES (or transgressions) UNTO JUSTIFICATION (or acquittal). FOR IF BY ONE MAN'S OFFENCE (which is Adam) DEATH REIGNED (or ruled) BY (or through) ONE (man); MUCH MORE THEY WHICH RECEIVE ABUNDANCE (or overflowing) (provision) OF GRACE AND OF THE GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS SHALL REIGN (or rule) IN LIFE BY ONE (man), JESUS CHRIST.)

THEREFORE AS BY THE OFFENCE OF ONE (which was Adam) JUDGMENT CAME UPON ALL MEN TO CONDEMNATION (all people came under condemnation-JNT); EVEN SO BY THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF ONE (which was Jesus) THE FREE GIFT CAME UPON ALL MEN UNTO JUSTIFICATION OF LIFE. FOR AS BY ONE MAN'S DISOBEDIENCE MANY WERE MADE SINNERS, SO (also) BY THE OBEDIENCE OF ONE (which was Jesus) SHALL MANY BE MADE RIGHTEOUS. MOREOVER THE LAW ENTERED (or was added), THAT THE OFFENCE (or trespass) MIGHT ABOUND (or increase). BUT WHERE SIN ABOUNDED (or increased), GRACE DID MUCH MORE ABOUND (or increased all the more): (All this happened so) THAT AS SIN HATH REIGNED (or ruled) UNTO (or in) DEATH, EVEN SO MIGHT GRACE REIGN THROUGH RIGHTEOUSNESS UNTO ETERNAL LIFE BY JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD-Ro 5:16-21.

8-MAN IS TEMPTED BY DESIRE

Man has evil desires. These tempt him. Once he gives in to these evil thoughts, then sin comes forth. Once sin has grown full or is finished, eternal death results.

It is written, BUT EVERY MAN IS TEMPTED, WHEN HE IS DRAWN (or dragged or carried) AWAY OF HIS OWN LUST (by the bait of his own desire-JNT), AND ENTICED. THEN WHEN LUST (or desire) HATH CONCEIVED, IT (the desire) BRINGETH FORTH (or gives birth to) SIN: AND SIN, WHEN IT (sin) IS FINISHED (or fully grown), (it) BRINGETH FORTH (or gives birth to) DEATH-Ja 1:14,15.

9-SOME REFUSE TO ADMIT THEY SIN

Some people cannot even bring themselves to the point of honesty to admit that they sin. Such people deceive themselves. Such people are unsaved as the truth is not in them. A person who says that he has not sinned makes God a liar. In essence, they are saying that God has lied. Such a person is not saved. God's Word is not in him.

It is written, IF WE SAY (or claim) THAT WE HAVE NO SIN, WE DECEIVE OURSELVES, AND THE TRUTH IS NOT IN US. IF WE SAY (or claim) THAT WE HAVE NOT SINNED, WE MAKE HIM A LIAR, AND HIS WORD IS NOT IN US-1 Jn 1:8,10.

10-SIN IS DECEITFUL

Sin causes a person to be deceived. The more a person sins, the more he may be deceived. It is written, BUT EXHORT (or encourage) ONE ANOTHER DAILY, WHILE IT IS CALLED TO DAY; LEST ANY OF YOU BE HARDENED THROUGH THE DECEITFULNESS OF SIN-Heb 3:13. SIN…DECEIVED ME, AND…IT SLEW ME-Ro 7:11.

11-SIN OFFERS PLEASURE, BUT IT KILLS A PERSON FOR ETERNITY

Many people choose to live for "self." They want to do their own will now and hope that in the end when the judgment comes that every thing will turn out all right. They enjoy the pleasures of sin, even though the Scriptures clearly show over and over that the end result of sin is death. Spiritual death or the second death is the eternal lake of fire.

It is written regarding Moses that he chose TO SUFFER AFFLICTION (or be mistreated) WITH THE PEOPLE OF GOD, THAN TO ENJOY THE (passing) PLEASURES OF SIN FOR A SEASON (or a short time)-Heb 11:25.

The Scriptures warn us about sin. It is written,

DEATH comes BY SIN-ref Ro 5:12

SIN…REIGNED UNTO DEATH-Ro 5:21
   SIN UNTO DEATH-Ro 6:16

SIN…THE END…IS DEATH-Ro 6:20,21

THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH-Ro 6:23

SIN…SLEW ME-Ro 7:11

SIN WORKING DEATH IN ME-Ro 7:13

THE LAW OF SIN AND DEATH-Ro 8:2

SIN…BRINGETH FORTH DEATH-Ja 1:15

SIN UNTO DEATH-1 Jn 5:16

THE STING OF DEATH IS SIN-1 Cor 15:56

12-A PERSON THAT PRACTICES SIN IS A SERVANT OF SIN

It is written, WHOSOEVER COMMITTETH (or practices) SIN IS THE SERVANT (or slave) OF SIN-Jn 8:34.

13-SOME MAY SAY, "I CAN'T STOP SINNING"

God's reply to someone that says, "I cannot stop sinning", is this. It is written, (In your struggle against sin-NIV) YE HAVE NOT YET RESISTED UNTO (or to the point of shedding your blood-NIV) BLOOD, STRIVING (or in the contest) AGAINST SIN-Heb 12:4.

14-GOD'S WORD DISCERNS A PERSON’S THOUGHTS

It is not uncommon when witnessing to a person, using God's Word, that they will tell you to get away from them. Inside, they feel convicted that they are doing wrong, and they do not want to repent. Because their heart is set on doing evil, they hate God's Word. It discerns the thoughts and intents of their heart.

It is written, THE WORD OF GOD IS QUICK, AND POWERFUL, AND SHARPER THAN ANY TWO-EDGED SWORD, PIERCING EVEN TO THE DIVIDING ASUNDER OF SOUL AND SPIRIT, AND OF THE JOINTS AND MARROW, AND IS A DISCERNER OF THE THOUGHTS AND INTENTS OF THE HEART-Heb 4:12.

15-THROUGH GOD'S WORD, WE UNDERSTAND WHAT SIN IS

It is by the Law that we know and understand what sin is.

It is by the Word of God that we understand what sin is in the eyes of a HOLY GOD. It is written, THEREFORE BY THE DEEDS (or legalistic observance or works) OF THE LAW THERE SHALL NO FLESH BE JUSTIFIED IN HIS SIGHT: FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN (Torah…does…show people how sinful they are)-Ro 3:20.

It is the power of the Holy Spirit that convicts them or reproves them that they are guilty.

16-THE HOLY SPIRIT CONVICTS THE WORLD OF SIN

It is written, NEVERTHELESS I TELL YOU THE TRUTH; IT IS EXPEDIENT (or to your advantage) FOR YOU THAT I GO AWAY: FOR IF I GO NOT AWAY, THE COMFORTER (or Helper) WILL NOT COME UNTO YOU; BUT IF I DEPART, I WILL SEND HIM UNTO YOU. AND WHEN HE IS COME, HE WILL REPROVE (or convict) THE WORLD OF (guilt in regard to) SIN (He will show that the world is wrong about sin), AND OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND OF JUDGMENT: OF SIN, BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE NOT (or don't put their trust) ON ME-Jn 16:7-9.

17-PEOPLE REFUSE TO COME TO JESUS, BECAUSE THEIR DEEDS ARE EVIL

Many people do not want Jesus. They want to live their own life with no one telling them what to do. They want to watch garbage on television or at the cinema. They want to partake of pornography. They want sex outside of marriage. They want to do drugs, drink alcohol, smoke, lie when convenient, read about astrology, speed when convenient on the highways, and many other things. They do not want Jesus to reign over them. They do not desire to study and obey God's Word. They want to go to church when they desire and "feel" religious. They want to think that when they die they will go to heaven. They deceive themselves.

It is written, AND THIS IS THE CONDEMNATION (or judgment or verdict), THAT LIGHT (which is Jesus) IS COME INTO THE WORLD, AND MEN LOVED DARKNESS RATHER THAN (or instead of) LIGHT, BECAUSE THEIR DEEDS (or actions) WERE EVIL (or wicked).

FOR EVERY ONE THAT DOETH EVIL (things) HATETH THE LIGHT (hates Jesus and God's Word), NEITHER COMETH TO THE LIGHT (which is Jesus), (he-avoids it) (for fear) LEST HIS DEEDS (or actions) SHOULD BE REPROVED (or exposed).

BUT HE THAT DOETH (or lives by or practices the) TRUTH (or does what is true) COMETH TO THE LIGHT, (which is Jesus), THAT HIS DEEDS (or actions) MAY BE MADE MANIFEST (or seen plainly), THAT THEY ARE WROUGHT (or accomplished or done) IN GOD-Jn 3:19-21.

18-THE CONCLUSION

A born-again person does not practice sin. If a person claims to be saved, but practices sin, they are a liar. They are not born-again. It is written, WHOSOEVER ABIDETH (or lives) IN HIM SINNETH NOT (or no one who remains united with Him continues sinning-JNT): WHOSOEVER (or everyone who does continue) (to sin) (or) SINNETH HATH NOT SEEN HIM, NEITHER KNOWN HIM. HE THAT COMMITTETH SIN (or practices sin) (or keeps on sinning); IS OF THE DEVIL; FOR THE DEVIL SINNETH FROM THE BEGINNING. FOR THIS PURPOSE THE SON OF GOD WAS MANIFESTED (or appeared), THAT HE MIGHT DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL. WHOSOEVER IS BORN OF GOD (or has God as his Father) DOTH NOT COMMIT SIN (or practices sin) (or keeps on sinning) FOR HIS SEED (the seed planted by God) REMAINETH IN HIM: AND HE CANNOT SIN, BECAUSE HE IS BORN OF GOD (he has God as his Father)-1 Jn 3:6,8,9.

19-BE RECONCILED TO GOD

Jesus, Who knew no sin, was made our sin offering. Thus, through Jesus, we are made the righteousness of God. This is only possible through Jesus. Therefore, we make our appeal to people as ambassadors for Jesus. We appeal to people on the behalf of Jesus to be reconciled to God. It is written, NOW THEN WE ARE AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST, AS THOUGH GOD DID BESEECH YOU BY (or appeal through) US: WE PRAY (or beg or appeal or implore) YOU IN CHRIST'S STEAD (or behalf), BE YE RECONCILED TO GOD. FOR HE HATH MADE HIM TO BE SIN (or a sin offering) FOR US (on our behalf), WHO KNEW NO SIN; THAT (in union with Him) WE MIGHT BE MADE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN HIM-2 Cor 5:20,21.

20-THIS WE SHOULD DO: LAY ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT,
RUN WITH PATIENCE
THE RACE THAT IS SET BEFORE US

What should we do? We need to repent and confess our sins. As it is written, IF WE CONFESS (or acknowledge) OUR SINS, (then) HE IS FAITHFUL (or trustworthy) AND JUST (or righteous) TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS, AND TO CLEANSE (or purify) US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS (or wrongdoing)-1 Jn 1:9.

Then we need to lay aside everything that hinders us and follow Jesus. We need to run the race that God has marked out for us to run with perseverance and patience. It is written, WHEREFORE SEEING WE ALSO ARE COMPASSED (or surrounded) ABOUT WITH SO GREAT A CLOUD OF WITNESSES, LET US LAY ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT (or encumbrance) (or throw off everything that hinders-NIV), AND THE SIN WHICH DOTH SO EASILY BESET US (or entangles us) (the sin which easily hampers our forward movement), AND LET US RUN WITH PATIENCE (or perseverance or endurance) THE RACE (or contest) THAT IS SET (or marked out) BEFORE US-Heb 12:1.

Let us remember, after calling upon Jesus in repentance then water baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost needs to follow.
